Here is the new Issue of the Week. Recently a mother was reported to the authorities after her daughter mentioned at school that she was smacked by her mother (using a wooden spoon I think). So, what do you think? Should smacking a child be against the law? Don't forget to explain your contention.

I think that the people smugglers should be hunt down, and they might fund terrorists groups, because they make easy money from the poor. Or they might just take their money and kill them. Zac Nowell

I think that it shouldn't be against the law because kids need to relies that misbehaving means getting smacked. Anyway you won't learn a important lesion if you never get smack. Zac Nowell

Smacking a child excessively or enough to cause bruising or scars should be against the law. A parent should avoid physical punishment unless their child is misbehaving a lot.

Smacking your child for misbehaving shouldn’t be against the law. I was smacked when I was a child and I learnt not to do whatever I was doing wrong again, same as the rest of my family members and other relatives. For example, the other day my Nan was trying to get my cousin Mason, 5, to either put shoes on or take off his socks and put thongs on when he was playing outside, she asked him multiple times to do as he was told, but he didn’t listen, so my mother stepped in and threatened Mason that if he didn’t do as he was told she would smack him on the bottom, he went straight to the house and put on some shoes. There is a very big difference between child abuse and physical punishment for a misbehaving child.

I think that smackig a child for bad behaviour should not be banned. It puts into the childs mind that if they do something wrong and there going to have to pay the consequences. I believe that smacking in public should be banned though.

I say no. The reason for this is that children that do get "a smack over the bottem" come out better than those who dont. The kids that dont 9/10 times get into drugs and into prison. Kids that get it normally get good jobs and live a good life, they know the boundries. I bet Borack Obama got a wooden spoon.

I think that smacking your child shouldn’t be against the law, because parents are disciplining their child for misbehaving, the children aren’t going to learn any other way, especially if the parents have tried non-violent ways to control their children.
